picture courtesy: www.behindwoods.com{ pallikoodam movie }This pictures brought back our previous house main door. Its our Windows Vista and resembles exactly the same. Instead of a dull green colour ours is dull blue tinted shade with one asthalakhsmi picture at the center, having a big legacy bronze holder and a iron hook for the lock. back side of the door has a long metalic strip cut cross the door from the top left corner to bottom right corner.
i used to swing exactly the same in the picture, but the sweet irony is . when ever i swing .. my mom used to say..
“dei kadhava aatadha.. sandai varum.. appa vandha odha vanguva.. ” means
Don’t disturb the door/window else u will get beating..
within 24 hours i get into some tom trap either for beating my sister or playing outside or what so ever and get a nice whacking.. … ( ethu ellam yerumai mattukku ooraikkuma ? loosa viduinga pa )
Underlying cosmic meaning ..
In such houses usage of big door is very less and freaky creatures use to dwel around.. disturbing that may cause problems..
Around this context Tamil patti auvaiyar ’s athichudi says
Aravam aataeil.. – Don;t play with freaky creatures.

Hey,
The pic is just awesome. Definitely takes back to memory lanes, and infact my thatha’s house also looks very similar. I know that metal strip, heavy thing used to lock doors right…:) too much. I can see one kerosene lamp. In my granny’s place (in sakleshpur) they dint have electricity, so this lamp served the purpose for years, and I used to watch her tearing old clothes to make that batthi, to light the lamp…:)
Coming back to your amma’s comments…:))) hehehe…you know if you actually think, for every irritating habit one used to do, like the way you used to swing on the door types, elders had one anecdote kind statement to make. If for example, chappals were kept upside down, amma used to tell its a bad oman and immediately we used to keep it right, if you dont give someone water, you will become lizard in next janma, etc etc…:))) should I also put one blog on this next?
))
