Windows Vista

August 8, 2007 · 8 Comments

This pictures brought back our previous house main door. Its our Windows Vista and resembles exactly the same. Instead of a dull green colour ours is dull blue tinted shade with one asthalakhsmi picture at the center, having a big legacy bronze holder and a iron hook for the lock. back side of the door has a long metalic strip cut cross the door from the top left corner to bottom right corner. :)

i used to swing exactly the same in the picture, but the sweet irony is . when ever i swing .. my mom used to say..

“dei kadhava aatadha.. sandai varum.. appa vandha odha vanguva.. ” means
Don’t disturb the door/window else u will get beating..

within 24 hours i get into some tom trap either for beating my sister or playing outside or what so ever and get a nice whacking.. … ( ethu ellam yerumai mattukku ooraikkuma ? loosa viduinga pa )

Underlying cosmic meaning ..
In such houses usage of big door is very less and freaky creatures use to dwel around.. disturbing that may cause problems.. :)

Around this context Tamil patti auvaiyar ’s athichudi says
Aravam aataeil.. – Don;t play with freaky creatures. :)

Adi ThiruNaal….

August 3, 2007 · 16 Comments

With this grt8 title kalki kick-starts his ponniyan selvan story and take it to grand success. i may say Adi ThiruNaal is like a “Swathi Thirunal” krithi for me. cherubic festival registers lot of good moments among the people in chola kingdom. every year i used to anticipate this day with grt8 joy.. right from the rice + jaggery prasadham to late evening dinner with Mr. Renganathar and to have a crispy big sized rice applam.

This festival indicates

  • Monsoon already started in the ghats region
  • Cauvery river has steady flow of water
  • touches all the outlets, ponds, streams, kovil pushkaranis
  • Farmers started sowing the seeds
  • you may encounter husky sound of vathu( duck ), madaiyan, kokku, kurvi kind of country side birds.
  • we local gangsters re-start the swimming practice.
  • This keeps a big full stop for 3 months( June, July Aug ) no festival day and flags successive festivals.
  • People go to cauvery river and do poojas.
  • In my early days i had seen people used to jump from a cauvery bridge to water or from the running train people used to jump.
  • Water boats were employed to guard people.. lots and lots..

Oh ok.. let me throttle you with some known/unknown story which i discussed with my fiancee. Its a sweet mythological story about origin of river cauvery..

Once upon a time there lived ( i donna where he lived ) a sage 12345( ada i donna the name.. adhu dhaan.. ). As expected numerical named sage has a very sensous beautiful daughter named lobamitirey. Being a heroine of this story she excels in all sorts agmark tamil ponnu characters and prayed lord siva for her wishes. :) No wonder drooling lord siva gave two boons for her wish.

  • Boon 1( David Boon illa pa… ) : she wanted to become a lovely, fragrant, sweet, pacefull, sereine river.
  • Boon 2 : she wanted to marry short sage aghathiyar. ( kulla munivar agathiyar ).

Boon 2 got executed in a big manner and aghathiyar started living his life happly. Mrs.Agathaiyar did all sorts of wifely routines. one fine day short sage came to know about his wifes first boon. so when ever he travels abroad for a onsite visit and thapas he safe guard her rivery wife in his kamadalam( jug pa ).

After some time people in chola dynasty facing severe draught and prayed to lord siva about water management. clever lord siva wanted to utilize kamadalam river to the mankind and said please ask my beloved son Mr. Vinayagar to resolve this issue.

Polymorphic Ganesha took a khakha ( crow ) form and pushed the safe guarded kamadalam water with his crow head. Aspiring Logabhatri executed her first Boon and started flowing from the western ghats to end part of chola dynasty.

Adhu dhaan Cauvery vandha kathai.. ippo Kathaiikkul kathai .. chumma oru extension..

Angry aghathiyar try to put kottu ( prick on the head ) to the crow. Later realized its Mr.Ganesha who did that and felt bad. insane munivar put that kottu to himself with thoppu karanam.. by that time onwards when we pray ganesha we put kottu and thoppu karanam… enna sari ya kids..

Present disgusting factor : – i am seeing my cauvery without water, people lost the festival fragrance, no more agriculture happening around, no more swimming and moving to different direction.

by

a person started his life in cauvery , used to wake up daily by seeing perumals thirumanajan mani-osai, lived in a farmers house, loiter in the banks of river for fishing, swimming, cricket or what so ever etc etc..

Dreams Unlimited

May 11, 2007 · 17 Comments

Couple of days back i had a very sweet dream and had a cherubic conversation with my pasamalar. Its gonna be a Web chat as follows

Me: De.. erukeya ??
Pasamalar: :)
Me: enna? Smiley pooDura? Hey I wanted to ask you something?
Pasamalar: enna?
Me: Did you ever tried “Akaravadisal” ? Hope you know how cook that?
I got few recipes in the internet. Just curious vera oNNum iLLa,
appuram srirangathu ponnuikku theriunchu erukanmey adhu dhaan.
Pasamalar: Enna all of a sudden mmm .. I know. I would send my recipe.
Me: Did u tried @least once and hope you know it’s not Pongal?
Pasamalar: Dei romba seen poDatha. I know it’s not Pongal and I used to cook that.
Me : mm.. Appadiya .. appo unakku “ThirukanAmmudhu” theriuma ?
Pasamalar: #*)(#)_#$_#$(!@(!@!@!!@
Me: enna —
Pasamalar: Hey both are same.. i asked amma also..
Me: indha kathai ellam vendam.. Amma Va iLLaya adha mattum sollu ?
Pasamalar: 
Me: Podi iNga vengalam ( Sound it like Jilendru Oru Kadhal Jho ).
Pasamalar : appuram.. vera enna,…
Me: Sutham.. go back to your cookery books, turn the rusty pages and read properly.

There is a great line of difference between Thirukannamudhu Vs Akkaravadisal Vs Pongal.
Pasamalar: poDa.. Why are eating my head like this.
Me: illa Di… I had a sweet dream and in that I am eating all three dishes. adhu dhaan saapadum pola eruindhuchu vera onnum illa.
Pasamalar: mmm

Cooking is actually manodharama (ya ya something like music)…

Certain dishes has list of steps to do
Certain dishes has aroma
Certain dishes has kai-pakkuvoma
Certain dishes has extra nativity, motherhoodness
Certain dishes has divinity to it..
And so on..

But very few dishes twins all the properties… in that Thirukannamudhu, Akkaravadisal, Pongal are doubly stamped with extra specialized attributes.

There is thin line of implementation difference phenomenally boosting the taste. I had gulped enough of it in my earlier days and badly badly missing this now.

More over I like the nomenclature theorem for this…

Thirukannamudhu – First time I seeing a grt8 respect, surname, potion or vita name amalgamated to a dish.. “Thiru” + “ Kanna “ + “Amudhu”
Akkaravadisal – “Finest form of Porridge” specially invented by Srivalliputhur renganayaki to srirangam renganathar
Pongal – Hope everybody knows the sweet meaning to it.

Some interesting myth prevails around are..

1. Akkaravadisal requires Bronze pot ( vengala paney ) to cook to enhance the taste. Actual physics says you need keep stir it to get finest taste.
2. Most of the times srirangam akkaravadisal has some Smokey taste and its fondly tagged as “Perumal vandhu saaputara” adhu dhaan eppadi smell vardhu :)

** i missed kalkandu pongal in this series.. :) Try out all types ..

1. Pongal ( Typical Dravidian formula )
2. Akkaravadisal ( Typical Srirangam or vishu temple receipe ) (http://mykitchenpitch.wordpress.com/2007/01/11/akkaara-adisil-maargazi-27/)
3. Thirukanna-Amudhu ( Bangalore Kadham hotel serves hot hot types )
4. Kalkandu Pongal ( http://mykitchenpitch.wordpress.com/2007/04/01/kalkandu-pongal/ )

Every body deserves this dish in life time.
*** Internet may provide good recipe details.

Nenjill oru Thumbi parakkum aiyo aiyo

May 7, 2007 · 16 Comments

Swimming is one superb thing i would like to do for ever. Right from my kolidam days to jayanagar swimming pool times its amazing to remember. Huh I am missing all now. To fill that gap jogging stormed into my day to day life. I started jogging for Bangalore marathon (only celebrating run) and do couple of rounds in and around yediur lake or lalbagh. That’s it.

@present I am taking jogging as serious aspect of life. My jogging aromatically improvised by I.R, A.R.R, Yuvan, HJ, VS and all music souls. It’s such a pleasure to run with the tycoons and you hum urself till fellow joggers are staring @ you. :)

Last week I started with “Break the Rules” Boys song. My warm mode accelerated with this high groove song. When ever “Maaro Maaro” stanza comes I hum myself and when it changed the pitch “MaaroMaaroMaaro” I double my steps to cover the destination fast. It’s just another way to move urself with the song.

Few seconds later I got this D.A.T.I.N.G – Dating is a fantasy song. It’s a usual hip-hop number from A.R.R and I hum myself and proceeded. Suddenly something hit me back. I donna what is that and turned the song in a repeat mode till I finish the jogging.

Again while I walking down to office i played the same song… Oh man now I got it… Is it “Shankarabharam” or “Mayamalagowla” or hamasadhwani…?

konjam doubt, konjam resemblance, konjam joy …As usual all my doubts down poured to another head – to my world of music. without knowing the time and context i pushed my doubts.

after a while in ur busy hours u got ur answer saying:”yes its sounds like ‘Shankarabharam ‘…” inbetween hamasadhwani also :) Oh man “Nenjill oru Thumbi parakkum aiyo aiyo… :)

english booka padikirana paru ….. Erumaa*()#*#*#…

April 25, 2007 · 25 Comments

I am a decent reader in Tamil books space{comics, sirukathaikkal, vataravazakku, podhinam, etc etc} and totally untruthful to english books. My dad shouts the blog title quite often. He constantly missiled me to pick up his old BA english literature books. Heck it’s a nightmare – to get into something which you don’t like. Later his pressure plots made to do some random tossing and got my kind of book – “Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain. Initial reads made me drowsy and dropped that part. Again my college days turned the unturned pages quite faster and finally reached Tom Sawyer. My imagination about tom-sawyer is like konjam parattai thalai, sharp eyes, oru rowdy look… Chumma to base line that here is my version of Tom. Sawyer.

Samuel Longhorne Clements aka Mark Twain

  • Florida born kid dwelled around Missouri, Hannibal, Virginia City, Nevada, California, Connecticut, New York.
  • Mark Twain created St.Petersburgh – simple dreamy imaginary town. Christians believe that St.Peter tends the gates of heaven and St.Peterburgh is very near to Heaven.

Rasipuram Krishnaswami Ayyar Narayanaswami aka R.K Narayanan

  • Chennai born kid moved around Bangalore, Delhi, United States, and England.
  • R.K created Malgudi village – simple, dreamy imaginary town. Malleswaram + Basavandgudi = Malgudi.
